Funding, funding, who’s got the funding?
I am trying to do a tutorial for some doctoral funding from SSHRC, the only agency I, a Canadian, can apply to. I’m still feeling concerned about applying for it because, given the exchange rate, I would make *less* money than I am getting already. And my advisor would “try really hard” to top it up, but can’t promise anything, but I don’t see why the department wouldn’t prefer to give me a few thousand dollars for TAing (because I need to TA) instead of many thousand. Because I will turn it down if I don’t end up making *more* money for all this work.
Which is, I know, a kind of threat I shouldn’t use. But please. I can put down that I won the SSHRC doctoral grant and refused it on my CV, if I need to. If I’m lucky enough to get it, which I somehow doubt.
But I need to finish this tutorial. Which would be fine if (a) it weren’t clearly set up for people asking for money for a specific project and (b) I weren’t sick STILL. I’m not quite sick enough to phone a doctor, but not quite well enough to actually *do* anything.
