What I am thinking & reading
I’m debating if I should just post pretty Hawaii pictures and general vacation discussion or some of the other issues I’m thinking about. I sort of want to do both; or, sometimes, neither. (I have to do the first, actually — my family’s keeping a family blog of the trip for friends and family and jealous jealous people back home.)
Right now I will do neither. I am going to go and finish my book. I am curious why the head mutineer is absent from the story. Yes, I’m still on my first book. Look, it’s long, though I should be done tonight. I hope. Oh well. At least I can highly recommend it (The Bounty: The True Story of the mutiny on the Bounty). Also I can recommend In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. Yes, I do rather like stories about the ocean and sailors.

You know, I’ve stopped taking books on vacation. Since we nearly always go to the beach, I’ve found that while splayed out in the sand, I am so satisfied with the conditions that the last thing I want to do is get lost in the plot of a book.

Oh, I love getting lost in a book for a while, running into the ocean for a while (much longer here, where the water is like a bath, than in Maine, where it’s like a bath with ice cubes), and then coming back to read.

I love to read on the beach. I’ll read intensely for a while, then stop and just enjoy my surroundings, then back to the book. . .
I need to stop thinking about it and get back to figuring out this frigging WordPress!
