a wolf angel is not a good angel

this is a wolf angel & it eats the people it’s supposed to help. A wolf angel is not a good angel to have looking out for you.

Hacking my way, badly

Filed under: the concept of 'blog' — 2004.9.21 @ 12:10 pm

I tried to add a “forget user info” hack (from scriptygoddess), but it seems to have screwed up something with the headers. Oh well. I am trying to install gravatars, because I think they’re sort of cute, and I’m too lazy to edit my actual layout to put my kittens back in there. So they’ll appear if/when I comment, as soon as I can get them working, since the forget user info isn’t letting me get it done. I’ll probably remove the changes, install gravatars, then try it again when I’m not as lazy.

Update (1): Got the forget user info stuff to work now; I was (unsurprisingly) doing something stupid. Now on to figuring out where exactly the gravatar info is supposed to be placed.

Update (2): Gravatars are sort of working. The formatting is a bit wonky, but I’m happy enough to have my kittens back up that I will accept it for the meantime. You can get your own, for free, just by creating an account with the email address you use to leave comments with. I got the idea from Pharyngula.

  1. Cougar:

How did you get it to accept your nonsquare avatar? I tried uploading my 50×42 cougar and their system stretched it to 80×80 — it’s not only distorted, it’s also pixilated. :(

  2. wolfangel:

Ahh, I used a trick. My nonsquare avatar is square: it’s got a transparent background where the kittens aren’t.

  3. Cougar:

That’s a cool trick but I don’t know how to do it…. I sent email to your gmail address begging for help. One of these days I should figure out how to edit pictures….

  4. yami:

Hmmm, well then. You’re the first person I’ve seen to set this up; I’m trying desperately here to think of something clever to say, but I really just want to test mine out. Doop-de-doo.

  5. Sharon:

OK, now I have to get one of these too…

Please feel free to leave comments with all but no content to see the new icon. (It shows up even on old ones, but I find it too much effort to go back and search them out.)

  7. Sharon:

Done! I’m just waiting for it to be ‘approved’; don’t know how long that takes… Now all I have to do is implement them on my blog!

  8. Sharon:

I give in. How did you get the gravatars positioned like that to the right of the comment? Please tell me!

I also have a bit of bad news. At EMN (pink background) the kitties have white strips top and bottom rather than being transparent…

  9. wolfangel:

I’ve got it looking like this:

    [img src=”[?php gravatar() ?]” alt=”" align=right /]

except with the appropriate brackets. I tried changing my kitties again. It *says* it keeps transparency.

  10. Sharon:

The good news is that I now have the gravatars where I want them - thanks! The bad news (as you probably know anyway) is that at this moment the white stripes are still with us. Boo.

  11. Sharon:

I’ve just posted in the comments at EMN, but thought I’d come over here and let you know too (and any excuse for a comment these days!). I have the answer to the alignment in Firefox problem: you just need to put an invisible border round comments (see http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/graphicalcss/comments/index.html).
