What I am is . . .
Petite anglaise talks about the closing of M&S in Paris, and how sometimes she craves English food, despite living in France. And, yeah, sometimes I want something greasy and less than good for me, and I have great sympathy for anyone who can’t get good Indian food (the world! it ends!).
And though one can take a good pain au chocolat for granted (just move somewhere you can’t: never again will I think, oh, a light and buttery fresh croissant, I can get that any time! Of course now I can, but . . . ), you can’t ever really tire of them.
It makes me think of how much I held onto my Canadian identity while in the US, more than I ever had before. I think I am more leftwing for living somewhere rightwing; I know I use more Canadianisms, and that I raise vowels more. Apparently my French is much better (how?). I appreciate articles that explain how selling alcohol is a public service so we need to end the strike soon. I appreciate bread that goes bad in 3 days instead of 3 months. (I don’t eat much bread. Mostly I lived on the dozens of bagels I stored in my freezer. If you don’t prefer Montreal bagels to any other bagel, then you’re wrong and I don’t want to know about it anyhow.)
I don’t watch Rick Mercer because it’s on at the same time as something else and I keep forgetting to tape it, but maybe next week. I love Rick Mercer too. (I’ve made people watch his special.)
Oh well. Back to work. Since everyone else is on holiday, I’ll probably post 87 times to keep myself entertained.

Hey Wolfangel, at one point you commented on my blog. If you had been getting to my site through BlogExplosion, your blogmark to me was recently deleted due to a BE glitch. I just wanted to provide you with the new url: www.willfulexpose.com. Thanks for commenting. Happy Thanksgiving!

Please do! I’m on turkey-basting duty and everyone else left to go for a walk and/or get more alcohol. Turkey-basting will have to occur about every 20 minutes for the next few hours - so I’m not going anywyere…

Oh, good, other people who are near computers. Come, post, comment, make sure it appears we’re having AS MUCH FUN. The past two years we actually held a sort of Thanksgiving, because I went home for the week (well, yeah. Usually a bit more, actually. The traffic is bad! And I hated where I was living) but always with the free 20 pound turkeys you could get by spending 200 at a grocery store.
20 pounds = too much turkey for a family of 5, especially when one person is 10 and one doesn’t eat turkey. On the other hand, I do love turkey salad, with some curry and apples. Plus it was only twice. And free.
What bothers me most about Thanksgiving is that the Canadian stations don’t put on REALLY GOOD TV for us to make up for all the other shows being preempted by “Samantha: an American Girl Story” or “Whatever crappy reality series ended so I couldn’t watch Lost” or “You will see Seinfeld episodes even after you are dead, sucker”.

An almost-10-pound turkey is just right for 5 people. That’s what we had. And this way there’s only enough leftovers for a couple more meals. Which is perfect. And I lied - although I did end up being near the oven for about 4 hours, I did not get a chance to check the internet again…
