When I upgraded to 1200 that was something -- FOUR TIMES the speed! I couldn't look away from the screen for long or text would come over the modem faster than I could read it! A friend of mine started out with one of the first generation of modems -- 150 baud, and it had to be external because it was half the size of a computer.... I started out at 300 baud.
