I remember the days when I was just amazed that my computer let me communicate with others. Now I'm intolerant of anything slower than cable/DSL. Oh, the times they change.

Of course, I also recall when dropped cell signals were not just tolerable but expected.

Sigh. Technology.

You mean they're *not* expected? You obviously don't use Bell Canada for your cellular service. Sigh.

I remember when I had a 2400 baud modem and jealous friends because my modem was *so fast*.

I started out at 300 baud. When I upgraded to 1200 that was something -- FOUR TIMES the speed! I couldn't look away from the screen for long or text would come over the modem faster than I could read it!

A friend of mine started out with one of the first generation of modems -- 150 baud, and it had to be external because it was half the size of a computer....

Joining the chorus of amazment at human progress (let's just call it that).

And adding that I've discovered another, slightly disturbing phenomenon: when my internet connection goes down for even just ten minutes or so I get all freaked out.
