Well, while I’m screwing around with (breaking, whatever) my site, I’m going to try to use Dorothea’s suggestions for editing .htaccess and dumping some of the referrer spam. I tried and did *something* wrong (such! a! surprise!), but am convinced that this is something I can figure out by myself. If I can’t, I will do the honourable thing and find someone else to blame.
By convinced, I of course mean deluded.

I don’t feel particularly bad about having been this incompetent on it. Though if you’d post a text version of your .htaccess, it would help, because sometimes I think I just have all my lines in the wrong order.
