Well, we said we shipped it
Chapters claims that a “ships within 24 hours” book means that it gets to the post office within 24 hours (M-F) of the order being made.
I think this is pushing it:
| Date of Event | Time of Event | Location | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2005/10/04 | 18:50 |
MISSISSAUGA, ON |
Item accepted and entered into sortation plant |
| 2005/09/30 | 01:02 |
Shipping details electronically submitted |

The best part about this is that it went to a “sortation” plant. Is that even a word?

Darn, ianqui beat me to it. Sortation is now my new favourite word.

No, I think it’s a normal word. Google finds almost 200k hits, so maybe it’s an uncommon word. But what annoyed me was the part where I didn’t have the books yet because shipping means telling Canada Post that you will ship it, eventually.

They must mean metric hours — 1000 to a year. Or is it 100 to a year?

[…] I’ll complain about this again. If you promise shipping within 24 hours after your order is received (24 hours after your order is placed), then “shipping details have been electronically submitted” is not, actually, shipping within 24 hours. (Usually I get something the day after it is really shipped, hurray for the ON-QC corridor.) However, this time I am less irritated, because I received my copy of Magic for Beginners, even though it says it’s not yet available. Guess there’s no chance at getting The Ladies of Grace Adieu early, though. Yes, I have been into pre-ordering lately. (Harry Potter 7, I am looking at you. A release date even. Please!) […]

I am pretty disgusted with the American Heritage Dictionary. I don’t mind them listing it, but couldn’t they have added a little note on usage, something like “dialect, used only by idiots” …
