No clue what happened. A mystery!
Monday, December 26th, 2005I guess I will just buck up and upgrade to WP2.0 tomorrow and hope this magically fixes everything (sigh). On the other hand, I guess this is as good a reason as any to change my layout.

Not only did my weighted words stop working, but now all my comments seem to be down, since I don’t know how long. Hopefully I will be able to fix tomorrow. I have no clue what happened, since I haven’t changed anything in ages. But the Wordpress site is down so I can’t ask for support, and anyways, it’s Christmas. But grr.
If anyone magically knows what happened, though, that would be nice.
Update: theme problem, maybe? It’s ugly, but I can leave comments.
“Where are we now?” my sister asks.
“We’re about to enter Virginia.”
“Thank god, we’re finally leaving the Harry Potter state.”
“The what?”
“The Harry Potter state. You know, Voldemort.”
“No, that’s Baltimore.”
Ah, so nice. I got to sit on the book, finish the newest book by Jeanette Winterson — Weight, which will need rereading. Much reading is happening now — good books, too, which is so lovely, so lovely. Relaxed, sleepy, sunny, sand and water.
It was a long and painful trip. Of the 27 or so hours in the car, I slept somewhere between 18 hours (my mother’s estimate) and 23 hours (my father’s).
Guess I was a bit tired.
Leaving on vacation today. I am really, really tired. I barely slept, and haven’t quite finished packing. Clothes are done, but nothing else. I want to leave in an hour. So what am I doing? That’s right! Playing online.
Suddenly, the world — or something — no longer likes my weighted words plugin (I now have an extra *, though I have changed absolutely nothing in the past 6 hours). So I have removed it temporarily. I don’t think anyone actually looks at it except for me, but if you wondered where it had gone, wonder no more. Or wonder, but specifically about why it stopped working.
Tyler Cowen comments that the XM radio stations — in order to break into the Canadian market — are dropping world music for French channels, to “appease the French-language minority”. But he neglects to point out that the (almost certainly) English-language people who make these decisions left alone the fifty-plus English stations.
As of a few minutes ago, the days are getting longer again.
Ages ago I read a book I really enjoyed. (Well, this is something which has happened often.) I owned it, but it got lost over the course of lending it to people — probably family, who are not so good with the returning of books, always. Also I could not remember the title, only that it was magical realism and it was set in Iran. And so I tried googling magical realism iran novel and lo! The title of the book appeared. It’s a worthwhile read.
I have had no luck on another book I read once. It was a mystery, something about avatars online, and dealt a lot with archetypes and, maybe, clowns? I think Pierrot featured. If this sounds familiar to you, please, let me know.
