Day one away
Beachy day, in the end. I got a little sunburnt, but it wasn’t my fault because my mother was the one who covered my back. And it was not quite sunny enough to go into the water. Maybe tomorrow.
I’ve been looking for a mezuzah (an indoor one, for the sort-of-entrance to my place — and perhaps later an outdoor one), and I saw some rather nice ones in two different stores — one with art glass, one more enamel (but with a lovely tree look). One store was fine when I asked to see them. The other place had a conversation that went rather like this.
“Can I see the mezuzahs please?”
“The what?”
“Those mezuzahs, there.”
“The glass?”
“No.” [I point at them.]
“Oh. The things.”
Who needs the people working in the store to know what they’re selling?

For being not-religious, I like mezuzahs (-ot? no idea how that works) a lot, though I think the whole official-scroll-only thing is silly and something of a scam. Did you ask about scrolls at the second store just for fun?
