File format conversion question
I am trying to convert .avi files to .mp4. Mostly they work fine, but there are a handful that just don’t seem to convert right. I can’t open them in RealPlayer or iTunes. I’ve tried converting them with a few different tools, to no avail. And the .avi files are fine. What gives? More importantly, how can I fix it?

.avi files many contain a variety of codecs inside; you need to make sure that your conversion software contains the right codec.
There’s some conversion software for Linux, I think, that may emit mp4 files, like ffmpeg… it might even be installed on some Linux LiveCDs.

I am fairly sure I have the right codecs, since it is, say, 3 episodes out of a season, and the entire season is divx or xvid.
