Too many possibilities
I’ve decided, this fall, to take an art(y) class. Something new. There are two classes which look interesting. I am undecided.
Pros:
- wanted to take woodworking for a long time;
- likely to be different people from the people who normally take art(y) classes;
- has a second level class.
Cons:
- two nights a week, three hours each time;
- not sure what kind of thing I would be building, or who teaches it;
- would miss one class for Yom Kippur
Pros:
- once a week;
- neat class, never seen it elsewhere (and new, so may or may not be repeated);
- could probably use random pretty fabrics in a number of places
Cons:
- not something I’ve wanted to do like woodworking (though I adored doing batik, which isn’t on the list);
- am entirely incapable of sewing anything at all ever (but have a friend who can do some stuff)
Also possible: one of many glass courses, other woodworking studios.

Fun! Woodworking. Of course, I say this because I happen to hate working with fabric (though silkscreening is a blast if you can make a decent design in the first place), so that’s probably not much help.

I forgot to mention how first woodworking course has one class which I’d be forced to miss (Yom Kippur). I might call about it.

I think woodworking would be awesome. And very useful.
Every semester when the evening class brochures come out I make lists of classes I would take if I had the money. And then a list of classes I could teach in ORDER to make the money. Then I throw the thing away.
I took one once, though — but not really crafty. It was ‘car maintenance for women’. I felt I could justify that because it was useful.
The one I really want to take though, that always tops my list, is ‘cafe drawing’, where the class meets in a different cafe each week and you learn to draw the other people there.
