Now I'm feeling pretty bad for not devoting much thought to your hair.

We have almost twin hair. Mine isn't curly though - it is more cowlicky/wavy with a few corkscrew curls thrown in for extra annoyance.

I don't care about the disadvantages. I always wanted hair like that.

It takes over a day to dry in the winter

Mine dries so fast that if I want to do a style that needs to be done while wet, I have to keep spraying it with water while I put it up.

I can’t do loads of styles because there is way, way, way too much of it

I can't do loads of styles because there is just not enough of it!

It won’t grow any longer than midway down my back anymore. It gets split ends all the time

I have both these problems too despite my hair being the complete opposite of yours.

if I braid it, it will stay in a braid without an elastic.

No matter how good an elastic I use, my hair is so fine and smooth that it just slips out of the braid within minutes.

And the few times I've had it professionally curled (including for my wedding day), although I warned the hairdresser it wouldn't hold and they used all their special hairdresser mind-control magic tricks, the curls that took four hours to put in were gone in 45 minutes.

I would've thought physical characteristics would be less subject to interpretation than personality traits :) Do you see less contradiction with the way other people see your personality, or will you get to that, as well?

StyleyGeek, I think we have twin hair! Sheepish, you need to find your hair-twin, now :)

I will get to the other things, this was just easier. And my hair isn't open to interpretation: I am right and you are wrong. :>

My hair is just plain curly, not wavy or cowlicky.

Styley, I grant that a lot of my problems are conveniences when I have a stylist. I have awesome hair for a daily stylist. Styles stay in until I wash them out (or, for curls, until I sleep them flat). But I can't do them myself at all. When I do my hair, all I have is a frizzball. The hair I want is that of my best friend, which is very thick, just slightly wavy, and not at all frizzy. It slips out of things more than mine, but that's about it. (She is one of the few people I know who has no complaints at all about her hair.)

Lucy, I thought your hair was lovely.

And you think rock stars don't have a daily stylist?

I stand by my original statement. Rock-star hair.

Lucy, in the photos you've posted of it, your hair is far lovelier than mine. It looks so thick! Or is that just because it's so nice and long?

When I try to grow mine long it looks straggly and thinner than usual.

I don't know... If we all had daily stylists wouldn't everybody have rock star hair? Of course everybody would have to be part-time hair stylists and only part-time rock stars, and it's hard to see how anybody would find time to be in each other's audience, but that's not my point. I think if you're a rock star you can hire people who'll do whatever's necessary, even if they have to glue a wig to your head. If you have rock star hair *without* a hair van full of hair roadies armed with gels and liquids and powders and curlers and blowtorches, then that gives you a head start. Now all you have to do is learn to sing, dance, and play the electric guitar.
#
As for me, my hair is fibrous in nature and one end of each fiber is attached to my head. Do I have a hair twin? I don't know....

Devacurl and Devacare products are one solution. You've seen my hair - thick and curly and frizzy (when not dealt with). I totally swear by the stuff. I have been ordering it from Devachan Departure Salon (the people who develop this stuff) but just found it cheaper here: http://store.orele.com/devacurl1.html.
I personally like the Devacare a bit better than Devacurl. Though, Angell and Set it Free being two of my favorite items.
