Also, my sleep schedule is totally fucked again. I did sleep really really well last night, which was lovely, so I guess tonight it’s off.

I’m very familiar with sleep schedules getting out of kilter. What I’ve been known to do when I’m desperate is to deliberately make every sleep cycle begin later in the day/night than the last one until I catch up a full 24 hours. For example, let’s say my sleeping is so out of whack that I go to bed at eight in the morning. If I sleep eight hours, stay awake twenty hours, and repeat, then the next time I go to bed will be midday, and the next time will be four in the afternoon, and the next time eight in the evening, and the next a respectable middnight.
It’s not quite that straightforward in practise, and obviously there’s no way I could do it if I had work commitments, but it’s my last resort when I’m really out of control sleep-wise.
For general maintenence of sleep patterns, I’ve recently started keeping an electric timer by my bed, to prevent myself from having long daytime naps. It’s set to fifteen minutes, so if I’m lying in bed contemplating something and feel that I may accidentally drift off to sleep, I press the button, and fifteen minutes later I get woken up. No daytime naps, better sleep at night. Seems to work for me.
