2007, starting out with a whimper
I’m back home, in the weird “winter” weather.
Sure, it’s much more pleasant for it to be hovering at — or above! — freezing, instead of well below. But I can’t stand one more article about how every animal, except those that eat garbage (rats, raccoons), will die. Animals aren’t hibernating that should, and they’re using up their fat stores, so if we get a cold snap, they’ll starve to death. Birds aren’t migrating, so if we get a cold snap, they’ll freeze to death. One bird got frostbite, lost a toe, and had to be killed because it could no longer stand up. Other animals are dying because predators are moving north.
I can’t read the news anymore.

God, really? Because I’ve seen pigeons here in NYC missing entire feet and managing fine. Maybe it’s in the attitude: “What are YOU lookin’ at?”

Yeah, it was a great blue heron, I think? And probably it lost more than just a single toe, but I really can’t read the articles about how animals die.
Anyways, you can’t use pigeons as a comparison, they’re the cockroaches of the sky, they survive everything.

Wolfa, that is just heartbreaking. I wouldn’t last long trying to read about it either.

Umm. Welcome home?

What’s a new year if it doesn’t get rung in with new complaints, eh?
I really hope there’s no actual news, because I am not at all lying when I say I will not read the newspaper at all because as soon as I come upon those articles, I read them, then hate myself and all of humanity. Sure, it’s deserved, but it’s no fun.

Oh, man, I never thought about it this way (I guess I don’t read the news carefully enough?) I was enjoying this winter, but not anymore.

The weather here is really strange and warm too. We were supposed to start our snowboarding season, but there is no snow. It’s pretty creepy.

[…] I’ve been complaining about the weather for the past week, because I’m Canadian and it’s what we do when there is weather of some sort outside. (If it’s sunny and mild, we complain about just past or near future weather.) […]
