A fun winter activity
I’ve been complaining about the weather for the past week, because I’m Canadian and it’s what we do when there is weather of some sort outside. (If it’s sunny and mild, we complain about just past or near future weather.)
But I look, and really it’s been warmer than -20 daily (almost), and on average, 22 days of January have lows below -20, and we’re pretty much normal. It’s not an exceptionally cold January — I’ve just been using my hood, no hat under it! I wear dollar store gloves, not dollar store gloves with thinsulate gloves or mittens on top of it!
I’d be complaining a lot less if I could just sit in front of the fireplace 24/7, though.

Ugh. Too cold! I’m from Southern California, and when I experienced my first taste of Iowa winter in college, I asked many, many times: “People live NORTH of here?”

trillwing: Yes. People even go skiing (and get frostbite).
Since I’m 20m from public transit, I don’t even wear a lot of clothes on the way to school. Sometimes I wear a hat for crossing the street.

Aww, Trillwing, we have a word for people like you: wimps.
Plam, I didn’t realise you were in this city again. But you know, they have yet to build the tunnels from the metro to the university (they were planned. Once). But what’s “a lot of clothes”? You wear a winter coat, no?

I can deal with crossing Sherbrooke without real winter clothing. Unfortunately, my parents live 600m from the metro, and that’s more painful without a winter coat. Oops.
I actually find that winter coats just take up more room than I’d like on the metro. Although, come to think of it, my skiing jacket doesn’t take up that much room. But I don’t wear it in the city.

I admit, the winter jacket is too warm on the metro, and it’s impossible to take them off (unless you travel only on off-peak hours). Not that I mind being extra warm on the metro, except that it becomes very unpleasant when I actually leave.

Well, I never go towards downtown during peak hours. That’s because I don’t get up early. Sometimes I think I should work more, though.

I have just done that, and it takes me 15 minutes, and it’s the most amazing thing ever. I wish I worked downtown all the time. Or was independently wealthy — that would be ok, too.

I have been heard to complain about sunny and mild weather.

It also takes me about 25 minutes to bike downtown. But I haven’t been very motivated to do that recently. It is nice to live so close to downtown and to not have to go to the suburbs though.
I was just thinking that it would be nice to be independently wealthy. Then I wouldn’t necessarily have to go on job interviews.
