A question
You’re invited to a party — not a dinner party — for 8. If you want to be there pretty much on time, when do you get there? (Here the answer will differ if it’s a dinner party.)
I aim for 9 to 9:30.

When does the party start? That makes a difference. As does the guest list.

The invitation says 8. Assume this isn’t business related, too.

I find this differs hugely from country to country and even from city to city. In Christchurch, 8 means around 11. Here, 8 means 9:30 or so. In Germany, 8 means five minutes to 8 :)

Yeah, I know it differs. I was on the early side. But in grad school ville, getting there 45 minutes late made me rudely late. (I thought I was getting there *early*.)
