It’s like my Christmas-isn’t-secular bitching is just coming a month late
I haven’t really talked about the Herouxville story, because mostly I can’t be bothered to care. Like it’s a shock to anyone that Quebec is xenophobic mostly about religion.
But I read one article, which said:
“But now, a certain number of groups, mostly stemming from immigration, want their religion to be seen in open society. They want their symbols to be allowed in public. And that’s a shock for Quebecers, and they’re starting to try to find ways to negotiate an understanding.”
Look, people. I live in a city where there’s a church every other block, and a massive lighted cross on the top of Mount Royal. Where we have lots of statuatory holidays which absolutely non-coincidentally are the major religious holidays for one religion. So quit pretending this is some massively secular society that only the people who aren’t lapsed Catholics are trying to turn into a religious society.
