Books I (stopped) suggest(ing)
I had a few mystery authors who I used as standard recommendations, generally the series (and not the far less common standalones). Later books in the series have annoyed me so much that I have stopped recommending the authors at all, even when they have 4 or 8 or 10 very good books already. I am undecided about whether this is sane or not.

Who are they?
I think it’s kind of sane, but alternatively you could recommend them and just say, don’t read anything they wrote past 1995 or whatever.

The thing is, I really did like the earlier books, but the last book got me so angry that I cannot in good conscience recommend them. The author is Laurie King, and I can in good conscience recommend her standalones and the loosely connected Folly and whatever book it was loosely connected with. But she had two series, one got far more popular than the other (I prefer the less popular one), the unpopular one didn’t get a new book for 6 years, and the one that just came out had half the book a short story written by one of the characters in the popular series, and the rest of it was placed in that world, too. It’s not that I particularly dislike that series — I like it fine — but if you’re going to crow about how the unpopular series is coming back! finally! maybe you shouldn’t turn it into an adjunct of the other series.

Oh no! I love Laurie King. And I didn’t know she had a new book out. To find out all in one go that not only is there a new book, but it’s a new book that might piss me off: tragedy! (But you know I’m going to go out and find me a copy anyway… And I like both serieseses, so hopefully it’ll be okay.)
