Maybe with the most popular ones getting added to the regular cast? (Hopefully at the same time they axe Nikki and the poisonous siblings.) I think that might be what it is. Also, seems like a number of shows are going towards the two "mini season" formats - like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and a few others. The new character thing is backburnered, and the season length is heavily dependent on if the strike winds up soon, but now it seems like no matter what, this season ends in December.
