If there are only two elevators

When you are in an elevator, if you see someone push a floor before the one you’re going to, and the elevator is mostly empty, it’s really not inappropriate to move away from the door while the elevator is moving. It is actually *appropriate* to move away from the door when the door opens, even before someone says excuse me, because chances are, the button wasn’t pressed just for the joy of elevator-button-pressing, and really, it’s obnoxious to block the door.
Equally, when you’re coming into the elevator, just wait a few seconds to let people out. They’re not going to stay in the elevator to go on an extra little trip just to save you 3 seconds.
When you are in the elevator with one other person, and the elevator stops, and the door opens, and you are standing in such a way that no one else can enter the elevator, it would be nice to move, as opposed to — say — looking shocked that someone might want to go through the door; presumably I was being silly, pressing buttons for floors I didn’t want to go to, just to irritate.
