a wolf angel is not a good angel

I hired movers for the last few pieces of heavy furniture. Like, so heavy that no two people in my family can carry it, which makes getting it up narrow stairs difficult. So they will move four (4) pieces of furniture. I organised with some movers. Then, a phone call.

“Is there an elevator?”
“No.”
“We don’t want to carry the buffet up two flights of stairs.”
“Excuse me?”
“So we thought we’d let you know so you can hire someone else.”

Um. Okay then. You know, if there were an elevator, I wouldn’t've needed help.

Counter is in! There is one more chandelier in stock which I will pick up tonight. But I cut myself on my sink, so I’m thinking, maybe I should call plumber dude to install the stupid thing. Is this smart or lazy?

Update: lazy. But what the hell. Cheaper to hire someone than to spend hours on it and then need to hire someone to fix it.

My grandparents’ chandelier died.
My new chandelier broke.
All the new closet doors did not fit in the apparently not-square holes.
My bathroom door doesn’t shut.
My closet door doesn’t shut.
My back door didn’t lock (fixed).
The front balcony needed to be replaced entirely, not just repaired.
The toilet broke.
The new toilet also broke.
The rolltop desk flew off the truck and broke (not causing an accident, thankfully).
The counter person forgot about one piece of counter when measuring.

Not that any of these are really major, they’re just *annoying*. Today we are seeing if I can install a sink on my own. Won’t it be exciting? They say it’s something people can do without plumbers. Let us see if this list suddenly gets a “flooded the building” appended to it!

And re: photos. Yeah. I plan to. Soon. Really.

Working in my new place, in the get-money-for-it sense, not in the clean-up-etc sense. Yes, internet and wireless are functional! Hurray! For some bizarre reason, I can only have an insecure network, but I will work on that.

Furniture is slowly trickling in. Pretty much everything but my bed, dresser, and a buffet are here. I guess I need to call a mover for those, assuming I can — ha! — find someone on Monday, or Sunday. Otherwise, um. I should be able to drag a bed with someone. But things are looking put together.

The chandelier fixing should come soon, the kitchen cabinets will be done tomorrow, the kitchen will be repainted Monday, and perhaps the bathroom door will be fixed soon, even.

All I need to do is pack crap ALL WEEKEND LONG REALLY FOR SURE THIS TIME.

Yet more bringing of boxes up the (steep) stairs and piles of garbage — including the many tiles which the old owner mysteriously covered her kitchen counters with — down. Good exercise. Photos will come whenever I have more stuff in. Or fewer boxes, at least. Posts about something else at all (I still plan to finish that series, remember? About narrative and depression?) will come hopefully next week, because I will hopefully have finished moving crap by then.

In further bad news, my bathroom door no longer closes (it seems like there’s just too much paint on the door and the jamb). This is, um, not good. So when the painters come to replace my light this will need to be fixed. My linen closet door doesn’t close, either, but this is less problematic, though also something that would be nice to have fixed. Tomorrow will be a frenzy of cleaning and contact papering the kitchen, in the periods where I am not doing that thing we call “work”. The kind they give you money for.

The terrible thing is that I can’t seem to function on less sleep. I am looking longingly at my bed, and feeling painfully guilty too. But since I become nonfunctional without the sleep . . . let’s hope I *can* sleep. This is gonna be a long week.

The painters dropped my chandelier. I am upset, of course, though they’re going to replace it. Assuming there are any left in stock. But I’m also upset because I feel rather guilty. I mean, it’s not even vaguely my fault, just an accident, but this is a huge chunk of money. Which I can’t afford — my front balcony didn’t “need some repairs”, it was rotten and needed to be replaced totally. And which I am not so sure they can really afford either, and I don’t really know what to do. They’re really nice guys, it was clearly an accident — but clearly their fault, too.

I moved some of my never-unpacked boxes in, still unpacked. It is hugely unpleasant, carting all those boxes up two flights of stairs, and it will be hugelier unpleasanter to cart furniturey things up. Also the shoes I was wearing made my ankle hurt.

My couch and chair are coming next week! A week earlier than I had hoped.

I really, really, really need to start packing.

New toilet tank and 2 hours later, my bathroom works. I am very tired. They are smashing up the sidewalk in front of my parents’ driveway which makes the entire house shake, causes parking problems what with our not being allowed to park on the street between 2am and 5am, and also makes the moving truck I will call about really soon now very inconvenient.

I did set up internet for next Monday. I will try to fix it so that I get my futon on Monday too so I can spend more time there and still be working. Time to get the new router. I will not have a phone until somewhat later. I have a cell phone, for the meanwhile.

Also my meeting was postponed, which means I cannot nap. I really need a nap.

I got all my paints. And, sadly, I think I made a mistake with the colour for my bedroom, I want it to be bluer, not so purple. Time to buy new paint! Luckily I like all the others. Unluckily I have discarded all my colour samples. Oh well.

Also, my toilet — my new toilet — is leaking. And I can’t find wherever I put the plumber’s number. Fuck.

Update: found the guy, he’s coming tomorrow in the morning. (He offered tonight, but I am too tired. Also I am going out for coffee, but mostly I am just lazy.)

I have a toilet! And apparently I can keep drains unclogged through a monthly volcano. (Baking soda and vinegar down the drain.)

Then I will try to put in the doors and test paint samples. Tomorrow I will buy paints first thing in the morning for the painters. I am still working on stripping that piece of furniture, but I got stripper in my gloves, so I need to wait for them to dry out. It’s taking forever, with the intricate bits of wood and the many many layers of paint.

I still haven’t even started packing. Surprised?
